Doug brings a professionalism and strong educational background in exercise science that is a breath of fresh air in an industry that is frankly crowded with over-eager salespersons pushing the latest fads.
From my first meeting with Doug, he was quoting recent scientific studies that directly related to my fitness goals. When I ask questions, it isn’t uncommon for Doug to take out his clipboard and draw a quick graph to succinctly explain, for example, muscle recovery or the relationship between hunger, food and blood-sugar levels.
Before starting training with Personal Fitness Advantage, I had reduced my workout to almost nothing out of fear of reinjuring my lower back. Doug and his team carefully considered my back injuries when crafting my fitness plan. The routine they made for me increases my lower back strength so that I can work out my whole body without aggravating my back injury. I’ve never had to remind them of my injuries; they were on top of it.
This leads to my favorite part of my experience with Personal Fitness Advantage so far: Doug and his team manage the whole fitness process for me. I no longer have to pour over magazines or Web pages to find the right exercises. After working with Doug for almost a year, I can attest as well as anyone that he knows what he is talking about when it comes to health and fitness. Don’t be fooled, however, into thinking he will spout off technical jargon without providing an explanation. To the contrary, he works very hard to explain a concept and in doing so, backs it up with the most current applicable research.
Doug is a professional, first and foremost but that does not stop him from taking a personal interest in my progress. I have always felt like a person, whom he takes seriously, not simply money in his pocket. He has worked hard to provide me with the tools that I can use to take charge of my health and fitness. He is very goal-oriented and has a knack for problem-solving, able to look at the “big picture” when sometimes I cannot.
Many people have a warped view of personal trainers as people who are paid to “kick your butt” or put you through a mini “boot camp.” Doug will make you work hard but NEVER at the expense of safety. I have always found working with him to be enjoyable and a learning experience.
